One Sunday a quarter of a century ago, Marjorie Eliot hosted her first free Jazz concert in her apartment. Since then people from all over the world have dropped by on Sundays at 555 Edgecombe Avenue, Apt. 3F, a National Historic Landmarked building known for having, among others, Paul Robeson, Count Basie, and boxer Joe Louis as tenants.
I had the great privilege of filming at 3F for three weekends in a row in 2010 hoping to capture the essence of that place. Verdict: nothing compares to being there.
A glimpse, however, I can offer.
